On 26/03/2025, the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection announced the re-opening of applications for residence permits under the “Digital Nomad Visa” Scheme, allowing non-EU and non-EEA nationals to live in Cyprus while working remotely. This presents an excellent opportunity for individuals who work remotely, whether employed by foreign companies or self-employed, providing services to clients based outside Cyprus.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a non-EU or non-EEA national.
- Work remotely using telecommunications technology.
- Be employed by a company registered abroad or be self-employed, providing services to clients outside of Cyprus.
- Demonstrate a stable and sufficient monthly net income of at least €3,500 (after taxes and contributions). Applicants must provide proof of salary payment and detailed bank statements from the last 6 months showing stable and satisfactory income outside the Republic.
- Provide proof of residence in Cyprus, such as a rental agreement or property ownership.
Benefits of the Digital Nomad Visa:
- Residence in Cyprus: A one-year residence permit with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years.
- Residence of Family Members: Family members can reside in Cyprus for the same duration, though they are not permitted to engage in employment or economic activities within the country.
- Tax Residency Benefits: If digital nomads spend at least 183 days in Cyprus within a tax year and are not tax residents elsewhere, they can gain tax residency in Cyprus, which may offer financial benefits.
Application Process:
Applicants must submit their applications to the Migration Department in Nicosia within three months of arrival in Cyprus. Key steps in the process include:
- Submission of necessary documents, including proof of income and proof of accommodation.
- Biometric data collection (photograph and fingerprints) at the department’s offices.
- Processing time typically ranges from five to seven weeks.
